Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs) can be very effective in introducing daylight into a building. In fact, they can be so effective that they can cause visual discomfort to the occupants of a building, what is usually termed “discomfort glare.”

CLTC will be evaluating several design options intended for diffusing the light coming from the TDD so that it softens its impact on the interior space and provides the visual comfort desired by space occupants and lighting professionals even in stringent lighting applications. The successful design option will be then demonstrated in the field.

Objectives / Goals: To develop and evaluate direct/indirect diffusers which significantly reduce glare from Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs).
