Utility Demand Response

Demand Response (DR) is a technique for reducing the load on the electrical grid at peak times by allowing the utilities to send a signal that requests users to reduce their demand on the grid by rapidly turning off non-critical devices.

CLTC is partnering with Southern California Edison to demonstrate control systems that perform this for lighting, turning off non-essential lights when a signal is received from the utility.

Objectives / Goals: To develop, test, and demonstrate lighting control systems that automatically respond to Demand Response signals sent by California utilities.
