CLTC worked with Southern California Edison’s, Southern California Lighting Technology Center to redesign the facility's demonstration kitchen. SCLTC's demonstration kitchen is a testbed for present and future lighting systems. The variable height ceiling simulates lighting under a wide range of conditions created by changing the volume of the room. Lighting is tested for intensity, uniformity, quality and energy use. The redesign included an all new layout, interior design and lighting plan. | | | | | LED under and over-cabinet lighting

| | Michael Siminovitch, CLTC and Doug Avery, SCE | The rotation of technologies and demonstration of different technologies (e.g. under and over-cabinet, direct/indirect, pendant, interior cabinet, etc.) are easily applied through the new design. A power meter is connected to the kitchen so that the energy savings can be seen and calculated live as visitors cycle through the various lighting scenarios. The kitchen has many lighting scenarios that showcase the latest efficient kitchen lighting technologies including fluorescent and LEDs. On display are under and over cabinet T5 fluorescents, fluorescent pendants and an advanced compact fluorescent/electronic ballast downlight system that offers easy plug-and-play installation and a 30% increase in lighting efficiency over traditional recessed fixtures. The fluorescent downlights are a PIER developed product and more information can be found here. The kitchen also has the newest LED downlights and LED under and over-cabinet fixtures. Future lighting will include direct and indirect recessed, surface mounted, and direct and indirect pendant fixtures.
