Designing with Light - Final Presentation

Class of 2008

Press Release - Slideshow - Class Final

Lighting and Modeling Studies

The Lighting Fundamentals class is an introductory course in lighting design and technology and covers these topics:

History of Lights
Light Sources
Vision Theory
Color and Design
Vision and Color
Light Distribution Systems
Indirect Lighting
Lighting Controls
Glare and Interior Design
Daylight Modeling

The objective of these studies was to explore the effects of light distribution color and texture on the modeling of an interior. In these special project assignments, students can explore the theoretical concepts that are presented during a lecture series. Students are asked to frame their studies using the language and technical concepts developed in class. Students have access to a wide variety of light sources and systems that can be used within these modeling studies.

All the students started with a scale model of 10 x 10 x 10 inches, and with this plan and volume they were to explore variations in light distribution, interior surface reflectance and light sources. Students were asked to construct model studies and to explore the use of different direction role and diffuse light sources to model their interiors.

This modeling exercise was one of the studies that was conducted during the course of the fundamentals class.
