| The goal of the Retrofit-Integrated Classroom Lighting System (R-ICLS) project is to develop cost-effective, retrofit systems that will bring the benefits of the Integrated Classroom Lighting System (ICLS) to the retrofit market segment. ICLS was developed by Finelite as a result of a PIER contract, and was primarily focused at the new construction and major remodel segments. To view the PIER-funded ICLS project page, click here. Benefits of the R-ICLS project will include: - Energy savings for thousands of existing California K-12 through university classrooms. R-ICLS will use 20% less energy than 2005 Title 24 levels for new classrooms
- Enhanced lighting control to help meet today’s and tomorrow’s teaching technologies
- Glare-free lighting for general education and audio / visual (A/V) requirements that meets or exceeds IESNA-recommended levels and provides cost-effective daylight harvesting
- Information on a single-source systems solution where classroom layout, system pricing, installation support, and warranty services can all be provided from one manufacturer
- A Retrofit Guide to help school staff identify the best retrofit strategy for their school
Fifteen R-ICLS demonstration systems will be built and installed after initial research in 2007 and 2008. Surveys will be conducted of market and users needs as well as technologies commercially available. Six of these systems will be documented for an academic year by independent researchers for results on actual energy savings and how teachers use them. | | | | | | Advanced ICLS installed at Sonoma State University | | ICLS control panel
