Bi-Level Smart LED Bollard

The Bi-Level Smart LED Bollard research and development was an outgrowth of the LED exterior hybrid porch and vanity luminaire project portfolio funded by California Energy Commission. The main operating feature of all products in this “hybrid” portfolio is the combination of an occupancy sensor and either an LED standby light or bi-level controls that reduce fixture wattage to a low level during unoccupied periods.

Product Description:
Pathways are particularly well suited to bi-level lighting systems. The Bi-Level Smart LED Bollard is designed to provide adequate lighting to identify path location at all times, then switch to a higher level of illumination when motion is detected. The research team worked hand in hand with the manufacturing partner, Gardco, to develop the control strategy, LED integration, and unique scalable output capability.

A demonstration, funded by Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) of the new Bi-Level Smart LED Bollard is currently taking place in cooperation with the host site, Arcade Creek Recreation and Park District. CLTC will monitor and analyze the systems in order to understand the economic benefits in new construction applications.  An additional demonstration is planned at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo in summer 2008.

Applications: Exterior lighting of pathways and buildings
