Designing with Light (Design 136B)
This is a studio design course in the Design Department at UC Davis taught by Professor Michael Siminovitch, at the California Lighting Technology Center. The studio course is designed as an exploration in light where students have the opportunity to explore theoretical concepts in lighting technology and design building on information presented in earlier lighting lecture courses. The goal of this exploration is to design, develop and prototype a fully working LED (light emitting Diode) based lighting fixture to illuminate a specific task. This course gives interior design students a foundation in building a lighting vocabulary and fundamental understanding of lighting technologies. The course is held at CLTC and taught by Professor Michael Siminovitch. The studio course takes a hands-on approach with lighting technologies and includes lectures, demonstrations, and site visits. Specific topics covered are: - lighting and vision fundamentals
- color and vision
- lighting sources and the production of light
- fiber optics and special effects
- fixture technologies for creating and controlling light
- daylighting and interiors
- special projects and fixture design
