Press Release - Slideshow - Class Final “Designing with Light” Course in Partnership with Color Kinetics. “Designing with Light,” an undergraduate environmental design course at UC Davis, is taught by Professor Michael Siminovitch and Melissa Blevins at the California Lighting Technology Center, during the winter quarter at CLTC. This studio class is the second component in the undergraduate course series directed at exploring lighting and fixture designs using LED technologies. The goal of this studio exploration was to design, develop and prototype a fully working LED (light emitting diode) based lighting fixture to illuminate a specific task. Final prototypes were presented by the student designers and reviewed by industry representatives and invited guests from the architectural design and construction community. This year, the studio design class is supported by Color Kinetics who provided the technical components and control assemblies for each student's LED exploration. “We're very excited about the opportunity to work with CLTC and UC Davis to provide students with the tools and products for next generation lighting. We're looking forward to seeing the creative designs the students come up with for fixtures incorporating our technology.” - Kevin Dowling of Color Kinetics “This high level of support and sponsorship brings next generation technology into the classroom and is an invaluable experience to the students, lighting designers, architects and engineers of tomorrow.” - Professor Michael Siminovitch, UC Davis
