She is from San Leandro, Ca and has lived in the Bay Area her whole life. She was always intrigued with form and structural objects, and from this interest pursued her goal to become a designer and earn her bachelor’s degree at Davis. In the process of taking her design classes at Davis, she decided to take one of Michael Siminovitch’s lighting classes and learned a great deal about lighting. In taking two of his classes, she is now very interested in lighting and is also interested in continuing her learning in this particular subject. | | | | | | | | | | In this luminaire, Sharlene wanted to create a pathway light that would focus on the thinness of the L.E.D’s. The fixture as a whole is slender and easy to manage. The stainless steel strips lined horizontally along the front can have up to four L.E.D’s behind the strips to create sparkle or provide more lighting against the frosted acrylic piece that the L.E.D’s face (there are currently two in the picture). There is also a down light component consisting of two L.E.D’s, which is a significant feature to this luminaire. This down light component provides a great flux distribution on the floor to assist anyone walking down any exterior or interior space as pathway lighting or as any sconce. This exterior porch light offers a consistent glow around the luminaire as a whole. This is desirable in any porch setting, with its brightness and full glow it is easy to illuminate any address number or signage above, below or on the side of this fixture. There are four L.E.D’s placed on every side to give it the “all around lighting” and “easy to spot” effect. Because there is an L.E.D placed in this fixture that faces down, it gives this light a down light for anyone that is looking for keys, searching for an address number…etc. This particular fixture is made of an aluminum piece with a weatherproof ballast that holds the L.E.D’s and protects them from any weather as well. |
