The California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program (CALCTP) is a statewide initiative aimed at increasing the use and effectiveness of energy-efficient lighting controls in commercial buildings by providing advanced training to electricians, contractors and managers. At the heart of CALCTP’s innovative curriculum is an intensive, hands-on laboratory course that allows students to practice the technical skills required to deliver good returns on investments for building owners and optimum lighting for occupants. As part of its support of the program, CLTC maintains and expands the curriculum, keeping CALCTP on the cutting edge of lighting technology. CALCTP has successfully trained and certified more than 1,300 electricians and placed over 800 of them in jobs through the U.S. Department of Labor. The program has also certified 51 contractors, provided its Systems Course to 63 mid-level managers, and instructed over 250 senior-level managers in its Business Development Course. The CALCTP team consists of: the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers / National Electrical Contractors Association (IBEW / NECA), California's electric utilities, the California Lighting Technology Center, UC Davis (CLTC), IBEW/NECA Joint Apprenticeship Training Centers (JATC), the California Community College (CCC) system, the California Energy Commission, and lighting control manufacturers. The U.S. Department of Labor grant that supports the program is being administered by ICF International for IBEW/NECA. Download the CALCTP flyer. Visit the CALCTP website.
