Cost-Effective Demand Response Technology

The University of California at Davis, in conjunction with the California Lighting Technology Center, Benya Lighting Design and NEV Electronics LLC, is pleased to announce the development of a new system for electrical power system Demand Response (“DR”).

IOLS - Personal Lighting System

The Personal Lighting System has developed through a partnership with Finelite, from the original IOLS project funded by the PIER Program. The personal lighting system consists of a family of adjustable task lights and under-cabinet lights connected to a single power module that is controlled by an occupancy sensor.

LED Bollard

The LED bollard was part of the hybrid porch and vanity project portfolio funded by California Energy Commission. Within this portfolio, the hybrid LED bollard concept utilizes an occupancy sensor that reduces the LED light output during unoccupied times.

LED Ceiling Fan

The LED Ceiling Fan project optimizes a combination of emerging LED technology and commercially-available lighting controls to create a cost-effective LED lighting kit. The project will also investigate integrating smart LED lighting controls into both the ceiling fan and exhaust fan markets for energy and peak demand savings.

LED Downlights

CLTC is partnering with manufacturers and homebuilders to develop new LED downlights for interiors. The work is funded by PIER, and is a Lighting California's Future project.

LED Life Testing

CLTC will characterize LED lumen deprication and color shift over a period of 8 months at multiple ambient temperatures.

R-ICLS

The goal of the Retrofit-Integrated Classroom Lighting System (R-ICLS) project is to develop cost-effective, retrofit systems that will bring the benefits of the Integrated Classroom Lighting System (ICLS) to the retrofit market segment.

Simplified Daylight Harvesting

This project focuses on the development and laboratory testing of a new cost-effective Simplified Daylight Harvesting approach designed to operate as a bi-level lighting system.

Solatube Product Development

Tubular Daylighting Devices (TDDs) can be very effective in introducing daylight into a building. In fact, they can be so effective that they can cause visual discomfort to the occupants of a building, what is usually termed “discomfort glare.”

Utility Demand Response

Research Projects

The CLTC facility has full-scale lighting and daylighting application laboratories for research, development and demonstration of next-generation, emerging lighting and daylighting technologies. Comprehensive in-house and outreach training programs are being developed in cooperation with industry and utility groups to complement demonstration and application labs.
