CLTC is proposing to perform a systematic evaluation of the luminous performance of the Hybrid Solar Lighting System, which can then be used to derive cost effectiveness for varying solar availability and electricity cost. Moreover, CLTC is proposing to perform a review of similar technologies and identify similarities, differences and performance potential. San Diego Gas & Electric, Sacramento Municipal Utilities District, Pacific Gas & Electric, and Southern California Edison are interested in the energy and peak demand saving potential of the Hybrid Solar Lighting System produced by Sunlight Direct. This system uses mirrors to collect direct sunlight and fiber optic cables to transfer the light to luminaires. The system produces about 50,000 lumens that are distributed through 127 optical fibers to different luminaires to illuminate about 1,000 square feet of indoor space.
