CLTC's 10th Annual Luminaire Design Competition

The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) held its 10th Annual Luminaire Design Competition on March 13, 2014. Each year since CLTC’s founding, Professor Michael Siminovitch has provided the UC Davis undergraduate students in his Designing with Light class (DES136B) with a design challenge that spans the full 10 weeks of the course. Lighting courses at UC Davis are taught through the Department of Design, under the College of Letters and Science’s Division of Humanities, Arts and Cultural Studies.

CLTC, UC Davis and Partners to Launch Best-Practices Training Program

Light-RITE California: Lighting Retrofit Information, Training and Education

CLTC, UC Davis, is collaborating with other stakeholders to launch the statewide Lighting Retrofit Information, Training and Education program (Light-RITE California). The program will provide public building facility managers with the knowledge and tools they need to get the best possible results from lighting upgrades. The program focuses on the top 10 lighting retrofit strategies that have been proven to reliably capture the most savings. It will include instruction on conducting lighting audits, completing measurement and verification, and minimizing maintenance costs.

New Effective Date Announced for 2013 Title 24 Standards

At its December 11, 2013 Business Meeting, the California Energy Commission revised the effective date for the state's new Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Part 1, Chapter 10 and Part 6), and affected provisions in Part 11 (i.e., the Cal. Green Building Standards Code) from January 1, 2014 to July 1, 2014. Changes to other sections of the code, such as plumbing, electrical, fire, and other standards, are unaffected by this decision.

CALCTP-AT Technician Training Course

CALCTP-AT Technician Training Course

The California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program (CALCTP) is offering a course for lighting controls acceptance test technicians and technician employers on May 7–8 at the SCE Energy Education Center in Irwindale, CA. Those who successfully complete the course will be certified to conduct lighting controls acceptance tests as required by the new 2013 Building Energy Efficiency Standards (Title 24, Part 6) set to take effect July 1.

Biannual Joint Meeting of the CIE/USA and CNC/CIE

The International Commission on Illumination (CIE, from its French name) is the global association for discussion, debate and information sharing on all matters related to light and lighting. The Canadian and U.S. committees for the CIE meet in Davis, California this year for two days of technical presentations, tours, and business meetings with many of the leading researchers and practitioners in the science and art of light and lighting.
