OptoElectronix Joins CLTC Affiliate Program

07/16/2009

OptoElectronix – OptoElectronix, a leading LED light engine manufacturer, announced that it has become an affiliate of the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) at UC Davis. Through the CLTC affiliation, OptoElectronix will join other lighting innovators, such as OSRAM and Philips, to improve the efficacy of LED luminaires, bring performance and reliability standardization to LED lighting, and drive costs down. Success in these areas will make LED lighting practical, reducing energy use and lowering maintenance costs.

2009 Campus Lighting Retrofit Forum Presentations

07/01/2009

Reducing energy use and maintenance costs with demonstrated lighting technologies — With the growing availability of new technologies, smart lighting systems, wireless controls, and improvements on traditional sources, the search for lighting solutions for campus applications is growing more complex. Presentations included lighting technology choices for exterior lighting, office workspaces, classrooms, and demonstration installations. Case studies showed the results of projects that have recently been installed.

Case Study: UC Davis Exterior Lighting Retrofit

06/01/2009

Most parking garages use high intensity discharge light sources that operate continuously regardless of lighting needs. These facilities typically do not employ energy-saving control strategies such as daylighting or time clock scheduling, and no considerations are made for lighting control based on occupancy. Garage lighting, designed to only a single static level, wastes energy and contributes to peak demand during the day and light pollution at night.
