Smart Bi-level Parking Lighting Retrofit at University of California, Davis: Projected Energy Savings of More Than 50%

CLTC – California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center and development partners will host a ribbon cutting and reception for the new Smart Bi-level LED Lighting installed at UC Davis’ South Entry Parking Structure near the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The LED light fixtures feature activity-sensing technology adapted and developed at CLTC.

Hotel Guest Room Energy Controls

CLTC and WCEC, in partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric, conducted a study at four hotels in the San Diego area utilizing three brands of occupancy controlled guest room thermostat products. The main objective of this assessment was to compare the energy use of the emerging technology with the existing technology. The adoption of advanced control systems in the hotel industry has been slow due to high labor cost of installing systems, maintaining the post installation integrity of the system, and lack of verified energy savings.

Have you ever walked down a street when, suddenly, the light above you turns off?  Have you driven past an empty parking lot or garage late at night and questioned why we brightly light many of these unoccupied spaces?  Recently, the California Energy Commission funded the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) at the University of California, Davis, to explore the many opportunities for  improving existing exterior lighting practices through the implementation of emerging technologies.

OSRAM – Lighting leaders from OSRAM Opto Semiconductors and OSRAM SYLVANIA's LED Systems business units, together with the California Lighting and Technology Center (CLTC) at UC Davis, California, unveiled an interactive LED demonstration wall that offers a tangible look at current and emerging LED lighting products and system solutions.
