NEMA – The University of California, Davis, has announced the opening of the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), established to develop energy-efficient lighting with market-friendly design. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) provided seed money to begin this collaborative effort, ultimately joining forces with the California Energy Commission and UC Davis, with some support provided by the U.S. Department of Energy.

TMC News – As a way to more quickly bring the latest energy-saving light emitting diode (LED) lighting concepts to consumers and businesses, OptiLED, Inc. announced today it will partner with CLTC on a number of development and demonstration projects.
The California Energy Commission adopted new standards updating the Appliance Efficiency Regulations (Title 20) for lighting appliances. Updates rolled out in two tiers with Tier 1 effective January 1, 2018 and Tier 2 effective July 1, 2019. Notably, this update added standards for small-diameter directional lamps. The updated regulations incorporate elements of lighting product quality for both general service LED lamps and small-diameter directional lamps in addition to the traditional lighting appliance efficiency standards previously included in the regulations.
