Advanced controls

CLTC's RD&D efforts have given rise to state-of-the-art lighting controls that can automatically adjust light levels based on occupancy patterns, available daylight, changing schedules, demand response signals, the energy management needs of a building or facility as a whole, or all of these factors. More accurate sensors and advanced communication platforms, the controllability of solid-state light sources, sophisticated algorithms, and more user-friendly interfaces all continue to increase the effectiveness and popularity of lighting controls. In addition to reducing energy waste during long hours of vacancy or when daylight is plentiful, exterior lighting controls can also help preserve dark skies. CLTC supports broader adoption of lighting controls, from the technological innovations developed in its lab to its field demonstrations and education efforts.
