Lighting Education

Kelly Cunningham, CLTC's Outreach Director, leads a tour of CLTC's facility and demonstration areas.

CLTC engages in lighting education activities in several ways. As part of UC Davis, co-directors Michael Siminovitch and Konstantinos Papamichael are professors in the Department or Design, which is in the Division of Humanities, Arts and Cultural and part of College of Letters and Science. The undergraduate design program at UC Davis offers two introductory lighting design courses, DES 136A and DES 136B, and two introductory daylighting courses for interior designers, DES 137A and DES 137B. CLTC's directors also oversee graduate student research and host international visiting scholars. The center's staff also regularly lead professional development courses, seminars, workshops, and lectures for architects, designers, contractors, specifiers, and other building professionals, with an emphasis on best practices for energy efficiency. The majority of these course offerings are through the Statewide Codes & Standards Program supported by California's Investor Owned Utilities. In addition, CLTC maintains the curriculum for CALCTP and NALCTP.
