Smart Planet – What types of smart lights will power our homes and offices in the next five to ten years? At the California Lighting Institute at UC Davis, Professor Michael Siminovitch shows us a giant integrated sphere that acts as an advanced light meter. He also discusses an array of LED and fluorescent lighting technologies including, down lighting systems for residential use, and exterior LED lighting for garages and parking lots.
On Wednesday, June 12, CLTC Director Michael Siminovitch received EverLast Lighting's first Energy Innovation Award for CLTC’s research and development of adaptive lighting controls. The award also recognized CLTC’s use of induction lighting in energy efficiency projects and the center’s commitment to reducing energy use for lighting on University of California campuses. CLTC has helped reduce exterior lighting energy consumption by over 60 percent at UC Davis alone through the university’s Smart Lighting Initiative.
The California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program (CALCTP) provides training and certification to electricians, contractors, acceptance test technicians, building operators and managers. The program is increasing the use of energy-saving lighting controls in commercial buildings and ensuring they are properly installed and commissioned for maximum effectiveness.

The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL), and the U.S. Department of Energy recently completed a state-of-the-art lighting system demonstration at NorthBay VacaValley Hospital in Vacaville, California. On March 19th, 2014, the project received an award for “Best Use of Lighting Controls in a Single Facility” from the Lighting Energy Efficiency in Parking (LEEP) Campaign.
CLTC Co-Director Kosta Papamichael presents on a CITRIS project CLTC undertook in collaboration with UC Berkeley. The advanced algorithms developed and demonstrated through this project will continually adjust electric light output based on real-time and historical data, gathered through both local and remote data streams.
CLTC – California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), UC Davis Energy Efficiency Center and development partners will host a ribbon cutting and reception for the new Smart Bi-level LED Lighting installed at UC Davis’ South Entry Parking Structure near the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts. The LED light fixtures feature activity-sensing technology adapted and developed at CLTC.

Lighting Controls Association – The Lighting Controls Association (LCA) is pleased to announce that its popular Education Express online education system now supports lighting controls training and certification conducted by the California Advanced Lighting Controls Training Program (CALCTP).
