UC Davis Smart Lighting Initiative

UC Davis Smart Lighting Initiative

The UC Davis Smart Lighting Initiative was established in 2010 to improve the quality and efficiency of both indoor and outdoor lighting on campus. The initiative's primary goal is to reduce UC Davis's electricity use for lighting by 60 percent, based on 2007 levels of energy use. The effort was inspired by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and its call to reduce statewide electricity consumption for lighting by 60 percent or more by 2020.

Let There Be Light

03/01/2013

The Parking Professional – Michigan State University (MSU) has adopted a strong on-campus sustainability initiative. Adopting these standards for energy savings requires a challenging operating specification to follow, and MSU launched a major lighting overhaul in the parking garage at the Wharton Center last fall.

EverLast Lighting Honors Dr. Siminovitch – Michael Siminovitch received EverLast Lighting's first Energy Innovation Award

On Wednesday, June 12, CLTC Director Michael Siminovitch received EverLast Lighting's first Energy Innovation Award for CLTC’s research and development of adaptive lighting controls. The award also recognized CLTC’s use of induction lighting in energy efficiency projects and the center’s commitment to reducing energy use for lighting on University of California campuses. CLTC has helped reduce exterior lighting energy consumption by over 60 percent at UC Davis alone through the university’s Smart Lighting Initiative.

The Facilities Management program at UC Davis will be presented the award at the UC/CSU/CCC Sustainability Conference at UC Santa Barbara.

CLTC completes more than 100 demonstrations of energy-efficient lighting

05/12/2010

CLTC – The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), a research, development, and demonstration facility at the University of California, Davis, has installed more than 100 demonstrations of energy-efficient lighting since the Center’s inception in 2004. The wide range of demonstrations has been installed at University of California, California State University, California Community College campuses, and state and federal buildings throughout California in an effort to prove energy-efficient technology and report the findings to the public through case studies.

UC Davis turns on smart lighting to save energy, be model for Californians

11/22/2010

UC Davis – The University of California, Davis, turns on a new Smart Lighting Initiative to slash the amount of electricity it uses to illuminate its buildings and grounds. EverLast Induction Lighting and CLTC introduce the BioLume series

05/02/2011

LightNOW – In collaboration with the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) at UC Davis, EverLast Induction Lighting, a product of Full Spectrum Solutions, introduces The BioLume Series. The new patent-pending lighting series is a collection of hybrid bi-level fixtures that utilize a 5000K induction lamp and amber LEDs, coupled with occupancy sensor controls. When the area is vacant, amber-colored LEDs emit biologically-friendly light. When the sensor is triggered, the induction lamp turns on to provide bright white light for enhanced security.

In addition to honoring a special guest, Dr. Michael Siminovitch of the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC), Michael Nevins, President of EverLast Lighting, spoke about the effects of sustainable energy, 'green' building practices, and its economic impact.

SPEED Program

State Partnership for Energy Efficient Demonstrations (SPEED) Program

The California Energy Commission sponsors the development and demonstration of energy-efficient, environmentally safe building technologies. It does this, in part, through the State Partnership for Energy Efficient Demonstrations (SPEED), a program that demonstrates innovative lighting and HVAC technologies. The SPEED program is managed by the California Institute for Energy and Environment (CIEE), which is a branch of the University of California. The California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) is subcontracted by CIEE to develop and implement lighting technology demonstrations.

Parking Today, "DC Complex Installs New Lighting in Garage to Reduce Crime Threat"

05/10/2013

In early summer 2011, Capitol Park Plaza in Washington, DC, began the initial stages of a major lighting overhaul at its parking garage for apartment tenants. By working directly with research partners and testing facilities, such as CLTC at UC Davis, EverLast Lighting has been able to bring an innovative lighting solution to the market.
