UC Davis Professor Konstantinos Papamichael recently received a 2013 Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) Presidential Award. IES President Chip Israel presented the award to Dr. Papamichael on October 28, during this year’s IES Annual Conference in Huntington Beach, CA.
The International Commission on Illumination (CIE, from its French name) is the global association for discussion, debate and information sharing on all matters related to light and lighting. The Canadian and U.S. committees for the CIE meet in Davis, California this year for two days of technical presentations, tours, and business meetings with many of the leading researchers and practitioners in the science and art of light and lighting.
California is embarking on some of the boldest building retrofit programs in the country to achieve its pioneering climate goals set by the state’s legislature and voters. In order to ensure that this large-scale investment is wisely executed and achieves maximum energy savings, stakeholders need to quickly develop an integrated statewide educational program that will teach our public building facility managers best practices and implementation strategies.
Winner of the top award for Research, Publications, Software, and Measuring Devices at Lightfair International 2014, the IES's RP-5-13: Recommended Practice for Daylighting Buildings includes the most up-to-date technological solutions and data for addressing the challenges of daylighting while maximizing its benefits.
Light-RITE California—Giving public facility managers the knowledge and tools they need to implement best practices and maximize energy efficiency across the state.
Presentations from the Smart Schools Symposium 2013.
The University of California, Davis, is collaborating with the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to develop a lighting efficiency demonstration and training center in Singapore. Leaders from the three institutions signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on September 12 stating goals and strategies for fostering sustainable lighting solutions through the new center.
Many thanks to the attendees and exhibitors at the 2013 Smart Schools Symposium. CLTC and the team at Greenwise Joint Venture will be in touch in the days and weeks to come, sharing highlights from presentations, contact information for follow-up meetings and more tools and strategies for moving efficiency upgrades forward!
Join UC Davis representatives, including staff from CLTC and WCEC, at this year's CHESC event hosted by UC Santa Barbara. Visit booth #203 to learn about lighting and HVAC innovations tested through the State Partnership for Energy Efficient Demonstrations (SPEED). Information on incentives and project financing options will also be available.
Reducing energy use and maintenance costs with demonstrated lighting technologies — With the growing availability of new technologies, smart lighting systems, wireless controls, and improvements on traditional sources, the search for lighting solutions for campus applications is growing more complex. Presentations included lighting technology choices for exterior lighting, office workspaces, classrooms, and demonstration installations. Case studies showed the results of projects that have recently been installed.
