CLTC is excited to announce the arrival of groundbreaking funding from the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy to develop a cutting-edge, human-centered lighting system for the global market, specifically targeting North America! This ambitious project, funded at approximately $3.5 million over 3.5 years, represents a significant milestone for CLTC.
The initiative will involve close collaboration with the Korean Research Consortium, which includes nine diverse organizations: Maltani Corp., ELSYS, and K-bell from the industry sector; Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI), KIEL Institute, Korea Testing Certification Institute (KTC), and Korea Association for Photonics Industry Development (KAPID) from the research institute sector; and Sejong University. CLTC stands out as the only foreign agency involved in this consortium, bringing its unique expertise to the table.
CLTC's role in the project is to support the design of the new lighting system tailored for the U.S. market, as well as to conduct rigorous lab testing and field demonstrations of the system within the United States. This partnership marks a crucial first step in establishing CLTC's presence within South Korea's research and industry network. Additionally, it opens new avenues for visibility and engagement with both the Korean government and private sector entities.
"This collaboration not only reinforces our commitment to advancing lighting technology but also enhances UC Davis and CLTC's international reach and reputation," said Jae Yong Suk, Co-Director of CLTC.
Professor Suk was invited as a keynote speaker for the project workshop held in Daejeon, South Korea, on July 31, 2024. At the workshop, he presented CLTC’s latest lighting research and technology developments in the U.S., specifically focusing on human factors research projects and advanced exterior lighting projects. His presentation was designed to inspire the research consortium and set the tone for the project’s goals and mission.
This partnership with South Korea highlights CLTC's leadership in the global lighting industry and positions CLTC as a key player in the future of human-centered lighting systems.
