UC Davis hosted the Office of Naval Research this week to convene the Naval Enterprise Partnership Teaming with Universities for National Excellence (NEPTUNE) initiative.  The focus of this effort is on Driving Research and Leadership in Buildings and Transportation Efficiency with a goal to improve energy conservation, generate renewable energy and implement energy-efficient technologies.  NEPTUNE also provides the opportunity for active-duty military, military students and veterans to participate in university-level research.

Researchers from the Naval Postgraduate School, U.S. Naval Academy, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Purdue University, and Arizona State University joined the team from UC Davis to share their progress on NEPTUNE-sponsored research initiatives.  CLTC is researching advanced occupancy sensing technologies for lighting control in outdoor applications with the intent to develop and deploy sensor technology that can serve high mast applications and other hard to serve outdoor areas.
