CLTC's interdisciplinary research collaboration with the Center for Mind and Brain (CMB) was recently featured on the UC Davis Instagram to spotlight The Color Lab.

This research is part of an effort to implement human-centric lighting designs to optimize well-being. The project aim is to understand how specific lighting colors influence stress and anxiety for humans. The study involved monitoring participants using EEG and cortisol measurements while being exposed to various color tones of ambient lightning. After the study concluded, it was revealed that amber light yielded the most effective reduction in stress response, both physiologically and subjectively. With support from Toyota Boshoku America, Seoul Semiconductor, and Color Kinetics, this team is developing innovations such as the Davis Lamp, a new lamp product which features calm-inducing amber light and will be available in US markets this Fall.

Now, circadian-aware lighting systems are being integrated into clinical environments, incorporating amber lighting into imaging rooms at UC Irvine Medical Center and planning for broader implementation within UC Davis Medical Center's new expansion site.
