Advancing Human-Centric Lighting Systems for Offices

Example of an open office

With funding from the Korean Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, CLTC and partners are developing a cutting-edge, human-centered lighting system for the global market. This project focuses on improving lighting quality and user satisfaction in both private and open offices by testing and validating the performance of these new, advanced lighting technologies.

Researchers at CLTC will focus on supporting the design of these new human-centric lighting systems tailored specifically for North America. In addition, CLTC will conduct lab testing and field demonstrations, retrofitting private and open offices at the UC Davis campus with the new systems. These demonstrations will help evaluate the technologies' performance and occupant satisfaction, offering a comparison to current lighting systems.

By demonstrating the new lighting system in an occupied building, researchers will be able to engage office occupants, collecting feedback on their experiences with the new lighting systems. This data will provide crucial insights into user acceptance and the overall effectiveness of the lighting technologies.

This project represents a unique collaboration between CLTC and the Korean Research Consortium, which includes nine diverse organizations: Maltani Corp., ELSYS, and K-bell from the industry sector; Korea Photonics Technology Institute (KOPTI), KIEL Institute, Korea Testing Certification Institute (KTC), and Korea Association for Photonics Industry Development (KAPID) from the research sector; and Sejong University. CLTC is proud to be the only foreign agency in this consortium, bringing our expertise in lighting system design and rigorous testing for the U.S. market.
