UC Davis Student Peter Nasielski Exhibits lighting fixture at Lightfair 2017

LEDVANCE, maker of SYLVANIA advanced LED lamps as well as a wide range of traditional light sources, standardized luminaires and connected lighting products, sponsored this year’s LED design competition at UC Davis Department of Design!

The annual lighting design competition focuses on the development of LED luminaire design as a creative industrial design experience for undergraduates at UC Davis. This undergraduate design class introduces learning experiences associated with product design, prototyping and innovation in the development of new LED luminaire design.

LEDVANCE provided SYLVANIA lighting products and technical support for this undergraduate class in design, allowing students to develop prototypes and functional luminaires using solid-state light sources. The annual design competition culminated in a final presentation hosted at the California Lighting Technology Center and attended by a cross-section of leading designers and architects in the lighting profession as judges. The winner of the 2017 design competition is Peter Nasielski, who exhibited his winning product at LIGHTFAIR International in Philadelphia! LEDVANCE also sponsored a fundraiser to support future design competitions.

The annual LED design competition is taught by Professor Michael Siminovitch, Rosenfeld chair in the Department of Design at UC Davis. “The lighting design competition is a great opportunity for students to become engaged in the culture of innovation and design, and we welcome the collaboration with LEDVANCE in supporting this vitally important effort in supporting the innovators of  tomorrow,” said Siminovitch.
