In the March issue of the Chilean magazine Ciluz, CLTC Director Jae Yong Suk shares his expertise on the future of lighting and how the center is steering the industry forward. The issue highlights technical advancements in sustainable lighting and addresses the growing impact of light pollution.
Founded in 2003, the CLTC was established during the pivotal transition from fluorescent lamps to LED technology—an innovation that promised unprecedented efficiency, flexibility, and reduced energy consumption. Throughout this shift, the CLTC collaborated closely with the California Energy Commission to shape Title 24 of the State’s Code of Regulations, establishing rigorous standards to eliminate energy waste and bolster sustainability in both residential and commercial buildings.
Today, the frontier of lighting is expanding. While environmental stewardship remains a core pillar, the industry’s focus is shifting toward human-centric lighting, prioritizing the physiological and psychological well-being of the people within the built environment.
