The new standards took effect July 1, 2014 and include updated requirements for high-efficacy lighting, lighting controls, and LED quality.

California Quality Standard and the LED Performance Database

The Voluntary California Quality LED Lamp Specification requires that LED lamps meet certain product performance criteria. This “California Quality” specification was developed by the California Energy Commission in collaboration with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) to accelerate consumer adoption of LED lamps. Many California utilities are using the California Quality Specification to determine which lamps they will include in their rebate and incentive programs.

LED Lamp Testing at UC Davis

Since its establishment in 2003, the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) at UC Davis has conducted extended photometric and electrical testing of light sources. During the last 18 years, CLTC has been successful in establishing an array of testing facilities, some with unique capabilities, including complete photometric and electrical testing laboratories, and chambers for lifecycle testing under customized operational conditions.

LED lighting products are receiving a great deal of attention for their potential to replace fluorescent lighting, reduce energy use and improve lighting quality in a variety of indoor commercial applications, including offices, classrooms and retail stores.
